Michael Jordan Gatorade CommercialEver since the Gatorade sports drink was first introduced to the market back in the mid 1960s, this sports beverage has been a real staple of most American athletes, and especially those in the pro leagues. Every one of the major national sports leagues are at least partially sponsored by and routinely use the Gatorade Thirst Quencher endurance drink, including NASCAR, the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and the MLB. Even with the major endorsements by world-class athletes and professional sports teams and leagues, many people still wonder just how effective Gatorade and other similar energy sports drinks really are. In a time when people are more skeptical than ever about advertising claims, people want to know if the widespread use of the Gatorade electrolyte sports drink is simply because of the massive advertising behind the brand or if it actually does have the power to quench that “deep down body thirst” of athletes. What Exactly is Stress?
Ask yourself what stress is and you will certainly come up with a laundry list of ideas. Ask your best friend the same question and you are likely to get different answers. Ask ten people that question and undoubtedly you will have ten different answers. As you can see, stress is different to every person. What one person considers stressful may not be stressful at all to another person. There are certainly different definitions of stress depending on who you ask.
There is, of course, a text book answer to what is stress. By definition, stress is tension, or in other words is it an emotional strain or mental state that can cause degrees of difficulty. You may find that you face small stresses every day. What should you wear to work? Did you remember to feed the dog? Does your child have lunch money? You may also have major stresses in your life. Will I overcome this illness? Can I pay the house payment this month? Will the car make it another few weeks? These are all stresses and they can certainly cause strain in your life.
